A standoff with Michael
Batchelor began just before
9 p.m., the Utah County
Sheriff's Office reported. When

called to the scene
officers were told Batchelor
was possibly suicidal and
may have shot himself.

They entered the home
after hearing a crash,
yet Batchelor remained hidden,
calling out threats. A

SWAT team arrived and
began trying to talk,
to convince him to
surrender. They said, instead

he brandished a gun, so
they shot him. Little
Cottonwood Canyon Road reopens
after avalanche debris cleared.
